11:00am - 12:00pm, 1:00pm - 2:00pm, 2:30pm - 3:30pm, 4:00pm - 5:00pm

Learn some coding and get creative at the Coder Academy, an hour-long workshop where you’ll learn some snippets of the Scratch programming language and be given a chance to use pen blocks to experiment with digital art.

This workshop is hosted by Sean McManus, author of Coder Academy (Ivy Kids), Cool Scratch Projects in Easy Steps and co-author of Raspberry Pi for Dummies. The ticket to the workshop includes a copy of Coder Academy, a full-colour book that combines on-the-page activities with on-the-screen coding. At the back are a fold-out poster, pop-out robots and a set of stickers to mark your progress through the book. Sean will be happy to sign the book for you.

Local children’s publisher Ivy Kids produce beautiful books that will get kids making, creating, thinking, playing and dreaming. Their books are designed for kids of all ages and encourage imagination, innovation, and above all, having fun!

This workshop is suitable for children aged 7–10, and children should be accompanied by an adult. No previous experience of coding is required. If you’d like to save your work so you can share it with your friends or add to it at home – please sign up for a free account at before the session (click where it says ‘Join Scratch’). Remember to bring your login details along! If you don’t want to create an account, that’s okay: you can still join in with everything in the session.

Ages 7–10

PLEASE NOTE: The 11:00am, 1:00pm, and 2:30pm workshops have SOLD OUT.
